About

I’ve been in the GIS world for almost a decade now, watching it transition from files to databases; from workstations to web delivery; from ivory tower to popular. I’ve worked doing everything from cadastral (Real Estate) digitization to programming and system design, to remote sensing (optical, thermal, and radar). My current job draws on all my skills and experiences, as a two person shop in the government sector. I see GIS as primarily a tool for decision support, and especially appreciate its usefulness within the context of environmental planning and natural resource management. Also, I (very slowly) make guitars in my shop in the garage (a pursuit known as lutherie).

  1. Hi,

I’ve tried running OpenDroneMap on a Linux, dual core, 4gb pc and it is turning in an expected performance of around eight hours to process just over a hundred photos.

I’m not quite sure how the various utilities handle cpu/memory/storage and would be grateful if you are able to let me know how the proposed configuration would effect processing time:

    Motherboard – ASUS Z8PE-D18
    Memory – DDR3 ECC 64GB
    CPU x 2 – Zenon L5520 8M cache 2.26GHz – 4 cores 8 Threads
    SSD x 2 – Samsung 850 EVO 250Gb ( RAID 1)
    Graphics – GTX 960

    Many thanks for your help,

    Regards,

    Paddy Evans
